Pushpa Kumari b. 2000

Biography

Pushpa Kumari is from Bokaro, Jharkhand of India. Born in a family of modest means belonging to the Background Castes of Jharkhand and a family background less oriented towards education and no prior history in arts, Pushpa left home at a very early age top pursue her education. She did her Bachelor in Fine Arts from Kala bhavana, Visva Bharti University, Santiniketan and Master in Visual Arts from Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda. 

 

Her work has been showcased in exhibitions such as Pushpabaug at Anant Art Gallery, Noida . She was also a participant in the Abir First Take show, where she received the Abir First Take Award. Her art practice is grounded in her fascination with the intricacies of human emotions and its ties with patriarchal society informed by her own life experience including personal challenges that have subtly shaped her worldview. Her art is visceral to human experience and presents us subtle yet intriguing sensitivity. Her attempts of putting sentimentality above objectivity are consistent in here works. She is a curious person with her artistry that spans a wide array of styles and mediums, a testament to her insatiable hunger for knowledge and creative expression.

 

Pushpa’s art reflects her astute awareness of the world’s intricacies. society advocating vulnerability with inclination towards female psyche. With her processes of making art, she ploughs inner turmoil that comes with apathy and insensitivity in the society and changes into something profound and sensitive. she demonstrates her belief in power of creative expression as a catalyst for change.
