Sahil Kumar b. 2001
Sahil Kumar (b. 2001) is a visual artist whose practice explores the concept of invisibilities of healing and care systems across physical and psychological dimensions. He holds a BFA in Painting from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, and MFA in Painting, expanded into New Media and Installation, from Shiv Nadar University, Delhi.
Sahil Kumar’s multidisciplinary practice is informed by personal experiences and a curiosity toward the invisibility of healing, care, resilience, and human endurance. His practice traces healing as a broader human impulse toward becoming- toward an imagined, often utopian, version of the self. Through drawing, photography, and installation, he reflects on the emotional journeys individuals undergo while pushing beyond physical and psychological limits. While drawing inspirations from his surroundings and conversation with his mother. Often using clinical objects and ephemeral materials as metaphors. He sees Hospital objects as extensions of the body that bridge the gap between limitation and potential. Sahil gives equal importance to the processes of making, display, and viewer interaction, allowing each work to evolve through shared human experience and collective memory, which further adds to the meaning of the works.
The artist transforms the institutional care, encountered within hospital environments, and instinctive care embedded in domestic spaces, into his immersive and materially layered practice. Expanding his practice through lived experience, he works across new media, technological interventions, and large-scale installations, often creating interactive and multimedia forms.
He was featured in the Top 30 Artist Under 30 by ArtIndia Magazine (2026); and selected for TheArtDocuMentorProject Feature and Dastan–e South Asia, Issue 1 by Hidden Gem Collective (2026).
