VINITA MUNGI The House She Imagines, 2025 Ceramic materials 25 x 20 in

This ceramic sculpture takes the form of a small, bark-like house whose exterior is rendered with delicate attention and ornament. The surface holds care, playfulness, and a sense of protection imagined rather than secured. Inside, the structure is bare. Inspired by Poor Champudi (Bichari Champudi), the work reflects a child’s innocence and whimsy as something carefully built and outwardfacing—beautiful, fragile, and exposed to the world. The broken door suggests not violence but vulnerability: a threshold between what is lovingly made and what cannot yet be understood. The house stands as a quiet metaphor for innocence shaped by circumstance, where attention and care accumulate on the surface, while safety remains uncertain within.
